At the beginning of March, my best good friend from High School, Michal, came to visit some of her old friends in Brooklyn, so she came over to see our apartment and show off her SOCUTE son, Isaac, to me. I had no idea, but when Michal lived in NYC (for part of the 8+ years she lived here), she actually lived IN our neighborhood! I thought it was funny how when we were out walking, she was able to tell me the best places for pho or Indian food and which nail salons and laundromats were the best ones. It made me feel good about our choice of neighborhood (again), knowing that I trust her judgment completely. Here’s me and Isaac at what has turned out to be our most favorite bar & restaurant, called Blueprint.

Couldn’t you just eat him up?!? He’s such a sweet natured guy and he’s already traveled around the world in his first year of life! Also, please note the lack of coat on me! It was beginning to warm up, slowly but surely!
As it began to warm up, Nelly would sit for hours on her “mat” on the balcony. That mat is just an old bathmat that we threw out there one day, but it’s her most favorite napping place now.ย
After living in Texas my entire life, it was pretty amazing watching the world come back to life after the harsh winter we had. It either didn’t happen at home or I was too busy driving my car from place to place instead of walking to notice. I can’t tell you how welcome it was to see these little guys popping out of the cold, hard ground after so many grey, snow covered months:
Teeny crocuses, coming to life.
Our reprieve from the cold was short lived, when at the end of the month, this happened AGAIN:
My friend from Texas (hey, Dez!) sent me this and it couldn’t have been more appropriate for us!:
Dammit.
Luckily, that was the LAST time it snowed for the year and the snow melted quickly. We were SO OVER THE SNOW by this point!
One weekend, we decided to explore a different direction than we normally walk, and happened upon a wonderful bakery, Baked in Brooklyn. They specialize in breads, but they have a ton of other pastries and treats to choose from, too. I had a chocolate croissant, because what else is there, and it was one of the very best I’ve ever had. And I consider myself a connoisseur. ๐
So many delicious options.ย
Not to beat a dead horse here, but the prospect of warmer weather was just so exciting.
I started to feel bad that Nelly wasn’t getting as much exercise – for her body or her brain – since we moved here, because she didn’t have her backyard to play and explore in. In Texas, her favorite thing was to patrol the backyard and keep us safe from the squirrels and birds. ๐
I read that you can put peanut butter inside a dog’s Kong toy (red thing pictured below), and they have to use their problem-solving skills to get the peanut butter out, so I tried that one afternoon when I was feeling particularly guilty. She had never had peanut butter before that day, but it’s safe to say it’s her most favorite thing in the world now. She worked and worked to get that peanut butter out of there; it was really entertaining. She would carry it from room to room and hide it when she would get tired, but then the smell of it would draw her back in and she’d start up again. It was a fun activity for her and we have done it several times since then.
So, March was a slow photo month! haha From the looks of my calendar, we pretty much just hunkered down and waited for the warmer weather to show up. We continued to explore some and get settled, finished decorating the apartment and started to find a rhythm to life in the City! ย April was a REALLY fun month… stay tuned for that recap!

What a nice description of your life in Brooklyn! I especially enjoyed the photos! Mom
